Pell Grant
Beginning with the 2017 – 2018 academic year, eligible students may now receive a full Federal Pell Grant for the summer term even if they received a full Federal Pell Grant during the fall and spring semesters. Year-Round Pell allows you to receive up to 150 percent of a regular grant over the course of the academic year so that you can continue taking classes in the summer and finish your degree faster.
Pell Grant Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for additional Federal Pell Grant funds, you must
- Be eligible to receive funds for the payment period
- Be enrolled at least half time in the payment period
- Be maintaining Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
- Be taking courses required for your program of study
Things to Keep in Mind
- The summer term is shorter than fall and spring semesters — consult with your academic advisor to develop a manageable courseload. Failing to complete classes successfully will affect your SAP
- All funds received will be included in determining your Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU)

Summer Aid
Students who don’t enroll full time for the fall and spring semesters can still use any unused Federal Pell Grant funds for summer. For the summer term, unused Federal Pell Grant funds from fall and/or spring differs from the Year-Round Pell that was allowed by the Department of Education. Therefore, you may not need to attend half time to qualify for this funding; however, all other eligibility requirements apply. Please keep in mind that the North Carolina Community College Grant and the North Carolina Educational Lottery Scholarship aren’t available for the summer term.
