Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET)

COA’s BLET program is a 16-week certificate course (typically offered twice a year) designed to give you the essential skills required for entry-level employment as a law enforcement officer. You’ll participate in over 600 hours) of training, including classroom tests, physical training and a physical assessment. At the end of the class, you’ll sit for the certification examination administered by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. In-service classes mandated by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Commission Training and Standards Division (including those for telecommunicators and detention officers) are provided online as well as in a traditional classroom setting.

Advanced Law Enforcement Training (ALET)

ALET course work is designed to offer current law enforcement officers advanced learning opportunities that may be counted toward an intermediate or advanced law enforcement certificate.

Corrections Officer Training

COA offers the Corrections Officer Training program. This week-long class provides the Workforce Development and Career Readiness requirements for North Carolina Department of Corrections personnel serving at state prisons, including Pasquotank Correctional Institution in Elizabeth City. COA is also working toward certification to offer the Detention Officer Training program, an intensive, month-long class for those interested in serving at the county or municipal level.
